I’ve been doing genealogy research, off & on, since I was bit with the bug back in 1978. I was in a far away town (Iron Mountain, MI) for work and found in the phone book my uncle, Oral Lauzon, who was my Dad’s favorite cousin. I visited him and learned much about the Lauzon family. I didn’t take any notes, but it encouraged me to take a side trip to Escanaba, MI where my Dad’s family was raised in the early 1900s. I was amazed to see the actual church building my grandparents were married in (Its since been demolished). And it taught me (with my family’s indulgence) how time-consuming genealogy can be, with countless hours in county clerk’s offices, libraries, cemeteries, and on-line.
I consider myself an intermediate genealogist that collects ancestor information on all branches of my extended family. That includes paternal and maternal in-laws, cousins, aunts & uncles, and going in both directions up and down the branches of the family trees. That’s one of the reasons that my Ancestry.com tree contains over 52,000 persons,
I collect more than mere dates and places. It is also important (but frequently lost in history) the “whys” that made our family immigrate, move, get married, work, etc. I have many, many “hints” to follow up. During my search, I found that the Lauzon family is actually related to the Wallace family, which makes my wife also my cousin (15 generations back). Incidentally, the Wallace family is related to William Wallace (of “Braveheart” fame) way back in the 1200s.
This website was started in late July, 2021, with immense help from my son, Shawn. It is second attempt to share my information on-line. Previously, I emailed family stories to my cousins and encouraged them to dig into their memories to share recollections about their families. I plan to have the website contain the biographical stories of many of the relatives in the ancestral family of Bill & Nancy (Wallace) Lauzon, including the in-laws of their children.
The Blog will contain drafts of the stories as they are generated, photos, and genealogical documents. It will give relatives an opportunity to comment and add memories of their own. I encourage you to subscribe to the website and put it on your “favorites” list.
Happy reading
Bill
